So, where is the Power of PowerPoint?

So, where is the Power of PowerPoint?
I do not know, but I sometimes think about it, and look what this guy says. Impossible, I hope we do not get a big community of stupidities because as he says, PowerPoint is being used everywhere, not matter what people need to present, PowerPoint is the best way to do that.  There a lot of points to think about by this reading. This is just to point over what the reading is pointing, do not abuse PowerPoint, do not let PowerPoint abuse of you, just try to get some freedom of some stuff like this, just combine traditional ways and technology that is what I do, and at the end I am happy, because I feel fortunate for living in a world using technology but having experiences with traditional ways to do my work. Do not make everything too simple that look obvious, everything is not obvious, there are a lot of complex things. , Jose

Teachers Use Cell Phones in the Classroom

Teachers Use Cell Phones in the Classroom
In my school students cannot use cell phones for all the distracting stuff that it is to be used by students that have anything to do in class, but is permitted to be used if the teacher authorizes the student use, and it is what I do with student’s cellphones. They ask for permission to look for specific things as vocabulary meaning, definitions, spelling, pronunciation, copying biographies and so on. That is how I used cellphone in class. I know sometimes they, the students use it for texting, or listening to music, but are those students that go to school just to do different stuff, not to study, s they get a referral for such conduct and get one day ISS or one hour detention.  Cell phones are permitted in cafeteria and some hallways, not everywhere. That was my school conclusion about it.

MP3

Jose: Technology is a reality that has been involving everyone time ago, and there is only one chance for educated people, get totally involved or the other chance is to pass as ignorant. “Companies mine growth of MP3 homework” implies something that is a real. Technology is growing up day by day and this is one of the reasons that companies who knows what’s going on with audio material pay special attention to make of this a very lucrative business. I feel sorry for the books, but this is the future. The younger generations prefer for sure an audio book instead of a hard copy one. Implications are: 1st audio companies grow up everyday. 2nd libraries need to change the way to serve people. 3rd will it imply any damage of the human audible function?. 4th Teachers need to try audio ways to teach our students.

I really never have used Ipod or MP3 or any audio system to learn. I know it but almost never have used it, only for short periods of time. Maybe I do not understand the importance of this, but I think is because my way to learn anything is the old fashioned way of pen and paper and so on. I know it is important to learn this way, but it takes time, even though never is late to learn especially when I know it is really matter for anyone who lives on this technology world.

One last thing is that there are many ways to learn anything, and DVD, Cd, MP3, web pages, are popular now. Which one will be the future ways to learn? Anyway, students benefit from whatever digital or new technologies to learn and are on the teacher the responsibility to approach to new learning styles to teach better. Education is in constant development, evolutioning and teachers need to be on top of this.

This is such as beautiful pic, love it, Jose

technology can help but ...

Absolutely, technology can help but not solve the problems in education

Absolutely, technology can help but not solve the problems in education. Technology is a tool, is a how, is very educational-useful tool, but never can solve the problems. It hasn’t the power to do it.  I think the problems of education are going to be always there.  There is not a simple solution. There are social, familiar, personal, and cultural factors that play a big educational role, which education can not solve.
There are another can of instances that play a big role, and maybe are letting education problems only to schools, what is not fair, but education problems is something that transcend the school environment, so government, society, private sector, and the family need to play their educational role in and for education, searching to work to solve the problem, that technology can not solve by itself, but as a tool sure can help.  Jose

Learning Styles Quiz

Learning Styles Quiz
It is interesting what you get in this quiz, I took the one titled "Three Different Learning Styles" and it talks about: Visual Learners, auditory Learners and Kinesthetic Learners. I did not take it before but for me was interesting what I got that is a combo of Visual and Kinesthetic. Visual is someone who learns by seeing and looking. Kinesthetic is someone who learns by touching and doing. This combo did not surprised me it is mostly true, but I pay lot of attention, so my surprise is that the conclusion is that I do not have good auditory skills.  This is just to share. I enjoy your writing. Jose
